General Information

Background

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC/Radio-Canada) ) was established in 1936, by the Broadcasting Act, to take over the broadcasting activities of the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, Canada's first public broadcaster and regulator. It now operates under the the Broadcasting Act of 1991, which sets out expectations for the Canadian broadcasting system and, within it,  CBC/Radio-Canada. The Corporation reports to Parliament through the Minister of Canadian Heritage.
