Business Finance and Taxation Data
Description:
Records related to financial and taxation data of incorporated enterprises operating in Canada. The Annual Financial and Taxation Statistics (AFTS) program comprises data from survey and administrative sources: non-government, for-profit enterprises from the Quarterly Survey of Financial Statistics for Enterprises (QFS) survey program, a survey of provincial and federal government enterprises, and administrative data from the Canada Revenue Agency. Records also relate to the annual Survey of Suppliers of Business Financing (SSBF) which targets banks, trust companies, credit unions, caisses populaires, finance, portfolio management, insurance and leasing companies. The survey provides a profile of financing provided to businesses in Canada, including small- and medium-sized enterprises and firms in knowledge based industries.
Document Types: The QFS and AFTS statistical programs include aggregate measures of assets, liabilities, shareholder's equity, revenues, expenses, profits and retained earnings and financial ratios. In addition, the AFTS program produces income taxes payable and a reconciliation of profits to taxable income and taxes payable. The SSBF provides loan amounts authorized, outstanding and business client counts by type of financing (debt, factoring and leasing) for several characteristics of business clients. The value of losses is also measured.

Corporations Returns Act
Description:
Records related to financial data, ownership, control (including foreign control) and concentration. Statistics Canada is responsible for the administration of the Corporations Returns Act (CRA). The primary purpose of this Act is to prepare an annual analytical report to Parliament on Canadian and foreign control in the Canadian economy, in terms of assets, operating revenue, and profits. In addition, information is collected on who owns whom in the Canadian corporate economy and is made available in Inter-Corporate Ownership. Central to the CRA program is the annual ownership survey, which must be completed by each corporation with total assets exceeding $10 million or total gross revenue exceeding $15 million. Further, any individual corporation or group of commonly controlled corporations not meeting the above criteria, but with value of equity or debt obligations, owing directly or indirectly, to non-residents of Canada in excess of $200,000, is required to file under the Act.

Canadian Health Measures Survey
Description:
Records related to theCanadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) that collects information relevant to the health of Canadians by means of direct physical measurements such as blood pressure, height, weight and physical fitness. The survey includes a clinical oral health examination to evaluate the association of oral health with major health concerns such as diabetes and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, the survey collects blood and urine samples to test for infectious diseases, nutrition and environmental markers. The CHMS also gathers information related to nutrition, smoking habits, alcohol use, medical history, current health status, sexual behaviour, lifestyle and physical activity, the environment and housing characteristics as well as demographic and socioeconomic variables.

Health Care Program
Description:
Records relating to the Health Care Program which includes information on health care institutions and the use of their services. Details are available for hospital inpatient morbidity, mental health hospital inpatient morbidity, and hospital and residential care facilities. Health institution operations records contain data on available beds, patient‑days during the year, patient movement (admissions/ separations), service workload of various departments, personnel and paid hours of work by occupational groups, detailed departmental operating expenditures (salaries and wages) and income by source and balance sheet information from hospitals. Information is available on the number and rate of induced abortions and selected demographic and medical information about women obtaining induced abortions performed in Canada. It also is responsible for maintaining the Health Person-Oriented Information Database. The principal source of information for this database is the Hospital Morbidity Database. Records with valid personal identifiers are identified as linkable records and key variables are verified for consistency across records with the same personal identifier. The database is available for studies linking morbidity information to other administrative or survey data.
